H. Benson Dendy III

As a senior staff member to two Virginia Governors (1982–1989), H. Benson Dendy III held positions as diverse as Secretary of the Commonwealth, Secretary to the Governor's Cabinet, and Special Assistant to the Governor. He began his career in state government in 1978 as a legislative assistant to the Lieutenant Governor. Over the course of seven legislative sessions in the 1980's, Dendy was responsible for lobbying the Governor's bills in the General Assembly.

Dendy has been a member of delegations to Great Britain, France, The Netherlands, Belgium, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Central America, and Bermuda. These delegations have involved Governor's trade missions, Europe 1992, economic development, international affairs and commemorative observances. He is a member of The Japan-Virginia Society.

Dendy is Co-Chair of the Delegate Selection Committee of the Council of the American Council of Young Political Leaders, a core grantee of the United States Department of State that conducts international exchange programs for young governmental leaders. Dendy is president of the Jamestown-Yorktown Educational Trust and is vice chairman of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation Board of Trustees. In 2003, Dendy was appointed by the United States Secretary of the Interior to the Federal Jamestown 400th Commemoration Commission and serves as the Federal Commission's Vice Chairman. He also serves on the Executive Committee of the State Steering Committee for Jamestown 2007. In 2002 he was appointed by Virginia Governor Mark Warner to the Council on the Southern Community of the Southern Growth Policies Board. He served on the Board of Trustees of the Valentine Richmond History Center for fourteen years and is a director of the Virginia YMCA. He is a member of the Honorary Council to the St. George's Foundation in Bermuda.  He is a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Richmond, where he serves as an elder. Dendy graduated from the University of Richmond, magna cum laude, and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

In addition to serving as president of The Vectre Corporation, Dendy is also a member of its Board of Directors. He serves as a member of the board of The Advocacy Group.
